New Zealand is the source of genuine Mānuka honey, produced when bees gather nectar from the Mānuka plant (Leptospermum scoparium). Every harvest is shaped by place, season and flowering conditions, and at the highest grades, nature yields only limited quantities.

Authenticity is more than a statement of origin. Mānuka honey exported from New Zealand must meet the New Zealand Government’s scientific definition, identified through a combination of chemical and DNA markers and tested by an MPI-recognised laboratory.

The honeys in this collection are selected from specialist New Zealand producers for their certified potency, provenance and rarity, connecting each jar back to the country and people from which it came.

How Mānuka authenticity is verified

Behind every genuine New Zealand Mānuka honey is something more reassuring than a claim of origin: scientific proof.

For honey labelled as Mānuka and exported from New Zealand, the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) requires testing against an official scientific definition. Each honey is assessed for five attributes (four chemical markers associated with Mānuka nectar and one DNA marker from Mānuka pollen), allowing it to be identified as genuine New Zealand Mānuka honey.

Testing must be undertaken by an MPI-recognised laboratory, adding independent verification to its provenance. It is a rigorous system designed to protect the integrity of one of New Zealand’s most distinctive natural products and give buyers around the world confidence in what is inside every jar.
