TranzAlpine Honey began in 1910 as a family beekeeping business and today the 5th generation of the Newton family are still just as passionate about producing honey. Right from those early beginnings, the family focussed on sustainable organic practices for their Manuka Honey and in 1993 they gained BioGro NZ organic certification.
The company's beehives are placed in remote pristine areas of the mountainous regions of New Zealand's South Island where the Manuka trees are plentiful. TranzAlpine care for their land, protect the environment and their bees and do not use any synthetic chemicals or antibiotics in any of their beekeeping practices.
Every jar of their Manuka Honey has been independently tested to ensure it meets the MG (methylgloxal) definition as set out by the New Zealand Government. Methylgloxal is the naturally occurring compound that is unique to Manuka Honey. As a guide MG 50-100 is ideal for daily use, MG 100-250 has added goodness and MG 250 and above is maximum strength Manuka Honey. TranzAlpine's range of organic Manuka Honey and honey products range in strength from MG 50+ through to MG 650+, the higher the MG rating, the higher the strength and purity.
Every jar of TranzAlpine's Manuka Honey has its own unique batch code which enables it to be traced right back to the hive where it came from. They use 100% recycled food safe PET jars and were one of the first honey companies in New Zealand to do so.
