Mother’s Day French Toast Recipe with Manuka Honey

Are you looking to make Mother's Day extra special for your mum? Why not start Mother's Day with a tasty Manuka Honey French Toast for breakfast? It is a sweet, indulgent treat with a healthy twist to make your mum feel cherished and cared for.

What is French toast?

French toast is a dish made by soaking bread slices in a mixture of beaten eggs and milk, then frying them until golden brown. It's often flavoured with cinnamon, vanilla, or other spices and served with toppings like honey, syrup, fruit, or powdered sugar.

Where does French Toast come from?

Its origins are a bit murky, but it's been around for centuries. It likely originated in medieval Europe as a way to use up stale bread. The French call it "pain perdu," which means "lost bread," referring to its use of bread that would otherwise be discarded. Over time, variations of French toast have appeared in cuisines around the world.

Before you get cooking, here are 3 tips to make the best Manuka Honey French toast:

  1. Use the Right Bread: Opt for thick slices of bread, like brioche. Sturdier bread holds up better to soaking without becoming too soggy.
  2. Choose authentic Manuka Honey: Choosing real Manuka Honey mean you are using a raw and organic ingredient. For the final Manuka honey garnish use a 10+ UMF honey or higher that will support your mum’s wellbeing.
  3. Soak Properly: Let the bread soak in the egg, milk and Manuka Honey mixture for long enough to thoroughly penetrate the bread, but not so long that it becomes mushy. Aim for about 30 seconds per side, ensuring each slice is evenly coated but not oversaturated.
