Manuka Honey Recipe for Ramadan - Luqaimat

Ramadan is a time to celebrate!

It’s a time to celebrate and be with your family, honour friends, help others and be healthy!

How about adding a special healthy twist to your traditional sweets and desserts? Here is an idea for everyone’s favourite treat, Luqaimat. We have added our own touch and replaced the traditional sugar syrup with delicious Manuka Honey which is not only healthier it also adds another level of flavour!

We recommend you use a Manuka Honey multifloral blend or lower MGO honey for baking and cooking. If you select 'HALAL' in the side menu filter only halal honeys will be displayed. Please enjoy this as part of your special meal with loved ones.

LUQAIMAT

Makes 5 servings

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp milk powder
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of sugar
  • ¼ tbsp yeast
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ ltr vegetable oil suitable for frying such as sunflower oil
  • sesame seeds

For the honey syrup:

  • 1 cup Manuka Honey
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp  lemon juice

METHOD

First prepare the honey syrup by adding the honey and lemon juice in a pan with water. Heat to almost boiling (but do not boil) for several minutes until the syrup is formed. Allow it to cool.

Combine flour, milk powder, salt, sugar and yeast then add in water slowly while kneading to make a dough. Leave the dough to rest for 15 minutes and allow to rise.

Use a tablespoon to cut the dough into small pieces, deep fry these pieces in vegetable oil until golden brown. Remove the fried pieces and allow it to cool a bit.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds and drizzle with the honey syrup.  Now serve to family and friends as a delicious treat!

We hope you have a wonderful and special time with your loved ones this Ramadan.
